How Eastcote House Gardens won the coveted Green Flag

The Friends of Eastcote House Gardens have worked extremely hard during the last three years to turn a very neglected park back into a place of beauty. To achieve Green Flag status the park had to meet eight criteria. A welcoming Place Healthy, Safe & secure Clean & Well Maintained Be sustainable Conservation & Heritage Community Involvement Good Marketing Good Management. The Friends of Eastcote House Gardens have also received a Highly Commended Award from the Hillingdon Association of Volunteers 2011 Awards for Team work. Flag raising images on the special page The Friends of Eastcote House Gardens, and all other Friends groups in the area are greatly indebted to Damien Searle, Green Spaces Officer LBH. Damien was voted the Employee of the Year 2010, and has always gone that extra mile to help everyone. As of now he has been made redundant by Hillingdon Council as a cost cutting measure.

Eastcote Community Day
Saturday 19th November. Meet in the car park Eastcote House Gardens 10.30am. Please bring a border spade and fork, task plant 420 hedgerow trees. This event is held in conjunction with Nick Hurd MP. Last years day report follows: "7500 bulbs planted in one day! Eastcotte residents got their hands dirty in a local volunteer day last Sunday. Lesley Crowcroft, Chairman of Eastcote Conservation Panel, told us how the day went. Eastcote Conservation Panel in conjunction with Nick Hurd MP, hosted the second Eastcote Community Volunteer Day last Sunday. The day started at 9.30am in the rain with members of the Friends of Eastcote House Gardens setting up in the Walled Garden for the Community Bulb Plant. By 10.30 it was still raining but 44 volunteers arrived to brave the inclement weather, including Nick Hurd MP and his daughter Katie Hurd. During a very wet morning 5500 bulbs were planted by the very willing and cheerful, if wet, volunteers in the Walled Garden and on the Rockery. Several dozen plants, grown by the Friends, were planted as well. Another Group planted 2000 crocus bulbs at Forge Green, High Road, Eastcote. It was a fantastic day, and it’s great to see so many people get involved. The more residents that get involved, the more pride they take over the garden. A Special mention must be made of the uniformed groups who took part, 4th Eastcote Beavers, 5th Eastcote Cubs and 6th Eastcote Cubs."

Post office reply to"Put Eastcote on the map campaign"
Councillor Bruce Baker took up the quest to have Eastcote properly recognised.by the Post Code. He explained as far as the Post Office is concerned we don’t exist and, to add insult to injury, Eastcote is actually split in half and we have to share two post codes, HA4 and HA5, with Ruislip and Pinner, which is actually in the London Borough of Harrow. The Post Office reply did contain some hope that an improvement could be made but fell short of the original request. "In this case we are unable to comply with your request." But Mr Hart added: "One option we may look into is the introduction of the Eastcote locality into addresses within the geographic area." Mr Baker said he would pursue the chance to have Eastcote registered as part of one or both postcode areas.

ERA support Lorry Ban Petition
Many residents in Northwood, Northwood Hills , Eastcote and South Ruislip are currently having their quality of life undermined (sleep disturbed) as a result of the regular movements of 40 tonne articulated lorries travelling between the Watford area and South Ruislip at 5am. These journeys are illegal and both the operator could receive a £550 penalty charge notice and the driver £130 for each journey contravention. How many other residents, in other parts of the borough, are also suffering from similar noise issues during anti-social hours? The LB of Hillingdon has opted out of the pan London enforcement agreement yet failed to implement a viable enforcement alternative. The following petition to the Council has been submitted by the Eastcote Residents Association:? We the undersigned petition the Council to implement effective enforcement arrangements to secure compliance with the London Lorry Control Scheme that places restrictions on the movement of Heavy Goods Vehicles (over 18 tonnes) during the hours of 9pm-7am on the majority of residential roads in the Borough. You are invited to support the on-line petition by following the link below; briefly registering (to rule out repeat voting etc); and then `signing` the petition if in agreement. click here
