Centuries ago, within the Manor of Ruislip, there was Ascot, Westcote & Norwood [ North of the Wood]. Westcote has disappeared into Ruislip, Norwood is now known as Northwood, Ascot has become Eastcote, which still remains but only just! Various faceless bureaucrats are trying very hard to remove Eastcote from the map, just as Middlesex disappeared into Greater London. The Post Office has split Eastcote into HA4, Ruislip & HA5, Pinner. We now need two telephone directories one for those who live in Ruislip post code area [Hillingdon] and another [Harrow] for those who have been placed in Pinner. Agencies such as DVLA, will not accept Eastcote as part of our address it has to be either Pinner or Ruislip. Throughout the years the Ward Boundaries have been changed so that Eastcote is divided between three different Wards. Eastcote & East Ruislip, Cavendish & Northwood Hills. Which means there are nine different Councillors looking after different parts of Eastcote. A small part of Eastcote Village at the top of Cheney Street has been placed into the London Borough of Harrow. Now, after the May General Election, due to changes made by the Boundary Commission*, Eastcote will be divided between to Parliamentary Constituencies, which means two MPs. Ruislip, Northwood & Pinner, which will include Eastcote & East Ruislip and Northwood Hills Wards, Uxbridge which will now take Cavendish Ward. Is everyone confused? The boundary of the Parish of St.Lawrence is Eastcote. From Whitby Road to Warrender Way, from Rushdene Road to Pikes End and everything in between. Let us all STAND up for Eastcote, the jewel in the crown of Hillingdon, say you live in Eastcote not Ruislip or Pinner, whatever your postal address. Support your local groups, your local shops, your local schools. Eastcote’s Celebration Picnic held in July, organized by the Friends of Eastcote House Gardens, brought together many groups and organizations. The event was sponsored by many of the Eastcote traders. Together we can put Eastcote back on the map! *The Boundary Commission is a Government body that changes the Constituency Boundaries from time to time, usually so that whoever is in opposition at the time finds it harder to gain a majority.
