Local MP opposes new houses
Housing developers Taylor Wimpy have applied to add 15 more properties to the existing RAF Eastcote site. Local residents supported by MP Nick Hurd have demanded the planning application be withdrawn. The proposal would increase the number of properties from 385 to 340. The concerns have been raised because of increased volumes of traffic and the abilty of the local road infrastructure to cope.

Eastcote Business Assn....Press Release
Derek Clarke (Chairman) of the Eastcote Business Assn. has just issued the following Press Release: "Over the last few months Eastcote Business Association (EBA) and Eastcote Residents Association (ERA) have been in talks about improving and extending the Christmas Lights this year. There is a shortfall in funds required and both the EBA and the ERA have agreed that to raise the funds required purely from the local traders alone would be difficult, therefore this presents a golden opportunity for us to work together for Eastcote. Ian Parkinson from the ERA has kindly taken on the responsibility for organising the street lights and raising the additional funds required. We are intending for the lights to be switched on in the middle of November. The Christmas Fun Day as usual will be organised by the EBA and will be held on Saturday 4th December with the funds for this event being raised through the local traders. For further information for this forthcoming event will be publicised on Eastcote Local Like myself many of the local residents have grown up in the area and over the years have seen a decline of the high street due to stereo style shopping centre’s and now the recession. I would encourage us all to continue to work together, not only for the Christmas period but in the future for the sake of our high street in years to come" Eastcote Local also understands that a Market on the Sunday has been proposed but not yet finalised. Eastcote Local will keep you up to date with any further news....

Support your local British Legion
The Royal British Legion is the leading tri-service charity that provides long term financial, social and emotional support to millions who have served, or who are currently serving, in the UK’s Armed Forces and their dependants. The Legion lobbies government on a wide range of issues including mental and physical health, housing, homelessness, employment, community and adult care, disability, skills development and debt management. It is the custodian of the nation’s Remembrance and Two Minute Silence. Over £100 million was spent in 2009 in carrying out its work. Over £32 million came from the Poppy Appeal, the rest from events, legacies, donations, sponsorships, sales, fees and investments. The Legion has nearly 400,000 members in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (Scotland has its own formation), 2,800 Branches, 650 associated Clubs. In this area there is a Branch with associated Club in Eastcote (Southbourne Gardens) and Ruislip (High Street). Legion membership is open to anybody over the age of 16. You do not have to be serving or ex-service to apply, just a belief in the aims and objectives of the Royal British Legion. You have to have to be a Branch member before you can apply for Club membership. Both these local branches are always keen to hear from anybody who wants to join and/or who can spare just a few hours to help collect for the Poppy Appeal in the Eastcote, Pinner, Ruislip, Northwood areas. For more information contact Jeff Duley, the Principal County Publicity and Recruiting Officer for North West London on 07808739434 or by e-mail at jeff.duley@btinternet.com or visit the national website at www.britishlegion.org.uk
