Eastcote’s Place in History

Six centuries of history at Eastcote House and Gardens!
Then there are the “Secret Eastcote” stories about the Bletchley Park code breaking outstation being at Eastcote, the Fighter Command, RAF Northolt Camp B Alternative Operations Room also being located in Eastcote and then after the war Eastcote being the first home for GCHQ. Then there has been the major presence of the United States Army, Air Force, Navy and Marines and the American school on the former U.S. base at RAF Eastcote.

Within the next few months published local author Andy P Weller’s detailed history about Eastcote House and the gardens is to become available as a colour illustrated book of more than 130 pages. The book is to be published by the recently formed Friends of Eastcote House Gardens Community Archive under the title “Eastcote House and Gardens: The People and the Place”. Once printing costs are covered all proceeds will go to the funds of the new Community Archive.

Andy is already working on a further Friends of Eastcote House Gardens Community Archive publication under the title of “Secret Eastcote”. He is currently researching and collecting memories from people that have an association with the former government and Ministry of Defence complex at Lime Grove (now Pembroke Park). Anyone with a story to tell is invited to contact Andy at andy_weller@hotmail.co.uk (that is _score). It is intended that Friends of Eastcote House Gardens Community Archive will also publish “Secret Eastcote” and that in the future further material relevant to the history of the Eastcote area will become available through the Community Archive.

Updates on all of the above will be available through Eastcote Local.

Andy P Weller’s two historical novels, that are based upon real people, were published in hardback by Book Guild Publishing under the titles “A Journey of Ascent: A Family Saga” (ISBN 9 781846 246494) and “Signatures & Sacraments: A Family Story From London’s Past” (ISBN 9 781846 248009). If you would like signed copies at the discounted rate of £15, this takes account of the fact that Amazon are offering a discount, then please contact Andy at the email address above. The books are available through many other outlets as well.
