The society was started in 1964 and since that time they have produced and published a great deal of research about local heritage and have promoted the conservation of the area through consultation with the local council, arranging lectures and conferences, mounting exhibitions for the local community and the formation of various working parties (e.g. Woodlands; Manor Farm).

They meet on the third Monday of the month from September to April at 8.15pm in St. Martin's Church Hall, High Street, Ruislip.
