The Power of the Arts at Christmas
With Christmas approaching, we can sometimes forget it can be a time of sadness and great turmoil for others. With our preparations with performing and planning concerts, we should not lose sight of this. With the arts, can be brought a light of joy in so many ways, we are so lucky as artists, to be able to do this and share what we do in such a positive way. I perform annually, at a couple of memorial carol concerts, which I know makes such a difference to those who have lost loved ones, throughout the year. These concerts make me feel incredibly grateful to be able to give something back through music, which I know brings great comfort to those who need it. The festive period brings people together at shows, communities that may feel isolated, such as the elderly. Concerts, Christmas lunches and fayres filled with music and entertainment, give some sort of much needed relief and interaction. If as a performer you can be involved in these festivities, please do. If you want a real deep in your soul laugh, pantomimes are the best method. They always have a way of bringing a silliness to the masses and are such escapism, who doesn't like shouting "Oh no, he doesn't" and "It's behind you"? This tradition, is what makes the British Christmas so unique and so much fun for children and adults alike. Whether you are performing at a traditional carol concert, or in a pantomime, remember artists you are making a difference. Even if you are not involved in a production, being in the audience and being part of a community, is so vital at a time like Christmas. Remember what ever you are doing, you will be making a difference with the arts.
