Recently an application to install an 18 metre high Telecomm Mast on the grass verge outside the Forresters and opposite the Grade II listed Building, Tudor Lodge Hotel, Field End Road was refused by Hillingdon Council. This verge was part of the land gifted to the Ruislip & Northwood Urban District Council in the 1920s. The land was part of garden of a very large house called ‘Griffenhurst’. This gift enabled the made up road to be installed. There was a condition with the gift, that the grass verge was kept tree lined to maintain the rural aspect of this area. Sadly ‘Griffenhurst’ was knocked down in the 1960s to make way for council housing. The buildings were substandard and later replaced by the Forresters development. Some gaps have appeared in the tree line, four saplings will be planted by March 2022 to replace the lost trees. Near the entrance to The Sigers, another tree is showing signs of decay, this will be removed and another planted during the 2022/23 planting season. The Conservation Panel have thanked Cllr Becky Hagger for arranging for the replacement trees and the Ruislip, Northwood & Eastcote Local History Society for the historical information.
