School Dynamics launches our brand new Love Breakfast! campaign

We are seeing far too many school students, especially Sixth Formers, slumped on desks mid-morning – even before we start our workshops, so we know it’s not our jokes sending them to sleep! Meet our Love Breakfast cartoon strip and join in the competition to name our fabulous little characters, who are going to do all they can to make sure all school students remember to have breakfast AND eat the right things to help them concentrate and learn during the school Too many students are telling us they’re coming to school without breakfast – some even without a drink…. we know you’re short of time and that it takes all your energy just to get out of bed for school, but you DO need some food to start your brain working…. How is anyone concentrating? They’re not – we know they aren’t because they are telling us that too. We’re going to help put this right. Too many students simply don’t know what’s good to eat to help them concentrate and stay alert during the day, or even getting to the first break….and we know from the breakfast survey results that they do appreciate some help, guidance and reminders as to what might be good to eat! So watch out for the brand new Love Breakfast Briefings coming to YOUR school – and in the meantime all 13-18 year olds can take the breakfast survey online at our web site www.school-dynamics.co.uk and if you want to suggest names for our Love Breakfast characters email tellmemore@school-dynamics.co.uk with your suggestions, or see us on Twitter at @school_dynamics or our Facebook page. | Nick Hurd M.P latest Newsletter |
| Extracts from Nick Hurd's latest newsletter: HS2 Update The issue of the proposed High Speed Rail line which would link London and Birmingham as well as Manchester and Leeds, continues to be a matter of serious concern and I continue to represent and put forward your views on this issue. I also recently accompanied a group of children and their parents from the constituency to 10 Downing Street, where they presented a Ruislip Against HS2, Children’s Petition. Europe As many of you may be aware, the Prime Minister vetoed a treaty change on the European Union at the summit last Friday. I support the Prime Minister in his decision and believe he is doing his best to protect the interests of the City of London and the UK within Europe. Supporting the constituency Youth Council November saw the creation of Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner’s first Youth Council. Eighteen students from nine schools across the constituency joined together to form a Youth Council with the aim of representing the views of young people in the area. The highly successful inaugural meeting took place in the Houses of Parliament with the students engaging in vibrant discussion and putting forward a wide variety of interesting thoughts and ideas. Kickz The end of 2011 brought some good news for the constituency. I have long been a supporter of the Kickz football project run in Ruislip and Harefield by the Police and Watford FC’s Community Sports and Education Trust. The scheme, which takes teenagers off the street at key times of the week and onto the football pitch has been extremely successful over the past few years. With over 70 young people taking part across the two projects the police have seen a dramatic difference in each locality. Working for you Keep up to date with your MP. West Wall of the Walled Garden

Friends of Eastcote House Gardens Dear Friends and Supporters. The West Wall of the Walled Garden has been declared unsafe. Fencing has been erected around the unsafe section for public safety. The damaged section will be shored up until repair works can be carried out. These cannot take place before the threat of frost is past [May]. Lime mortar has to be used, and this cannot be used during winter months. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Lesley

Extract from RAF Northolt communication
Extract from RAF Northolt communication. I can now inform you that it is planned that on Saturday 21 January between 7pm and 10pm two Typhoon aircraft will conduct two training sorties each over RAF Northolt. They will not land but will approach the airfield and overfly. They will not use reheat thus reducing the noise impact and should be at around 1,000 feet before they are over either the West End Road or A40, thereby minimising any distraction to road users. These sorties are necessary in order to begin familiarising Typhoon pilots with RAF Northolt and operating within the London airspace prior to their arrival here later in the year. As with the regular radar flight checker sessions which local residents have become familiar with, these sorties are being done after dark at a time which suits Heathrow airport, minimises disruption to other air traffic and has been agreed with the National Air Traffic Services.

TSI warns of dangerous energy saving scam targeting elderly
Trading Standards Institute is urging consumers to be aware of rogue telephone cold callers offering energy saving devices after trading standards up and down the country reported hundreds of complaints. Trading standards are currently dealing with more than 200 complaints about people claiming to be their energy supplier or working in partnership with them, offering a plug in device which they say can save them 40 per cent off their energy bills. Trading standards have had a number of the items tested which not only failed to satisfy electrical safety standards but do not deliver any tangible energy savings. Ron Gainsford from the Trading Standards Institute said: “Consumers are warned not to use the product as they pose a risk of fire and electrocution and a safety recall has been issued for the items traced so far. “Unscrupulous criminals are using the rising energy prices as an opportunity to lure in cash strapped consumers – elderly people seem to have been deliberately targeted. “The number of complaints we are currently dealing with is bound to be only the tip of the iceberg.” Advice to consumers If consumers have responded to one of these cold calls they should report the matter to Action Fraud on www.actionfraud.org.uk 0300 123 2040 or Consumer Direct on 08454040506 . They should also contact their bank to stop their debit/ credit card. If a device has been received they should not use it and dispose of it carefully. Consumers should be cautious about giving out any personal or financial information. They should independently verify a caller’s identity before agreeing to purchase any goods or services.

Good News Eastcote House Gardens
The Friends of Eastcote House Gardens have had Good news!!!!!! They have been informed that their Stage 1 bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund has been accepted. It would appear that nationwide there were 20 bids and only 5 were chosen to go forward to stage 2. Stage 2 requires a much more detailed application, for the restoration of the buildings and grounds. More details of future projects etc etc Stage 2 has to be submitted by February 2013. The amount of money they are hoping to receive is 1.1 million. Hillingdon Borough will be required to inject some funding, and so will the Friends of Eastcote House Gardens. Thank you from The Friends of Eastcote House Gardens for all your support to help us reach this stage, please keep up the good work
