Pinner Rotary St George's Day Celebration
21 Apr 2024
St George is the Patron Saint of England and is commemorated on St George’s Day, 23rd April. Pinner Rotary organise an annual festival celebrating St George, held in Pinner High Street on a Sunday in April close to St George's Day.
This year our St George's Day celebrations will be on Sunday 21st April 2024 from 12 noon to 5pm.
The picturesque High Street will be closed to traffic and filled with entertainment for everyone with performers, stalls and activities.
St George was also selected by founder Robert Baden-Powell as the patron saint of the Scout movement and all branches of the local District Scouts will participate in a parade up the High Street to the War Memorial where they will renew their Promise.
There will be bellringing in the Parish Church, children's rides and games, face painting, food stalls and much more!
We will have live performances from award winning Capital Connection, Morris dancing from the Merrydowners, Punch & Judy shows and live music from popular local band Simply Gray.
At 3pm the infamous Wheelbarrow Race will take place.
We will be collecting on the day for charities supported by Pinner Rotary including our President's charities Mind in Harrow and Purple Community Fund.
Pinner Rotary St George's Celebrations are generously sponsored by Gibbs Gillespie. Our thanks also to the Queens Head, Pinner for the supply of the all important ale for the competitors.
The Wheelbarrow Race
The highlight of the celebrations is always the Wheelbarrow Race, a unique Pinner event in which teams of two take it in turns to push their partner in a wheelbarrow, drink beer and race round the streets of Pinner. This starts at Little Common (just past the Police Station) and ends at Church Farm Green (opposite the Parish Church).
